YAWC Product Family
The YAWC family of products provides a range of tools suitable for a wide variety of user needs. Initially, two products were released, YAWC Lite and YAWC Pro. In early 2003, two more products were added, YAWC Online and YAWC Monitor.
YAWC Pro
YAWC Pro is a full-featured converter for MS-Word, and supports the generation of both HTML and XML content from Word documents. In addition to its conversion capability, YAWC Pro provides a toolbar to assist authors in creating well-styled documents, with hierarchical use of headings and lists. YAWC Pro also provides a simple verification facility, so that authors can check that their content is properly structured before converting it.
YAWC Lite
YAWC Lite is a free plug-in for Word which offers the same user interface facilitities to assist authors in creating well-structured documents as YAWC Pro. Both HTML and XML documents can be created using YAWC Lite. However, the authoring and conversion capabilities of YAWC are limited in a number of ways.
- Character-level markup such as bold and italic, hyperlinks and footnotes, and user-defined character styles are not converted. This means that authors can still create documents, but with less presentation formatting features than YAWC Pro.
- Document metadata is not converted, although it can still be entered using the standard dialog boxes.
- Document verification is disabled, so authors have more limited ability to check the document structure before conversion.
YAWC Online
YAWC Online is a hosted Word to HTML conversion and publication service, and is available for rent. It is designed to generate WAI Level 3-compliant HTML directly from Microsoft Word, and it enables many users in your organisation to maintain different parts of a website, without the need to purchase, install or configure software on every PC. Macintosh owners can also use this service.

YAWC Monitor
YAWC Monitor is a service which enables you to automate regular Quality Assurance checks for your website. Accessibility, broken links, and Dublin Core metadata checks are currently supported. A general status report listing the number of files of each type on your site is also included, as well as a report on the recent changes. HTML validation checks will be added shortly.
